About
Until now, our region has not received the recognition for the high quality produce that is grown or processed in this corner of Tasmania. Many of our producers have built their own individual brand but little is said about where it comes from except in general Tasmanian terms. We need a regional brand name for both producers and tourism operators to promote themselves under.
Regional branding is used to draw a positive connection between a product or cluster of products and the identity of a geographical region.
The qualities of a product are often attributed to a regions sense of place; the climate, air, water, soils and grasses that contribute to the taste and character of a product.
Regional branding is aimed at creating a more distinctive and positive image or reputation.
The term "TARKINE COAST" capitalises on the substantial iconic recognition and branding that has already been developed, including the established "Tarkine" word mark. Associating the "Tarkine" with "Coast" extends the reference area beyond the boundaries of the Tarkine itself, and highlights a key characteristic of the municipality.
"TARKINE COAST" as a regional brand name is both relevant and legitimate as a large portion of the "Tarkine" is in our municipality and we have an extensive coastline from the Pieman River up to Cape Grim and across to Rocky Cape as well as the offshore islands. We wish to show it as a multi use area; the wilderness to the south with sustainably managed forests, fertile grass growing areas for dairying and beef, rich basalt soils synonymous with vegetable production and a pristine coastline abundant in high quality seafood both wild and farmed to match anywhere in Australia.
The "Tarkine Coast" boasts the cleanest air in the world as measured at the Cape Grim weather station.
Arguably we are the richest and most diverse region in Australia.
